Khyentse library of College of Language and Culture Studies (CLCS) is administered by a Library Secretary and seven library staff. The library came into existence on the 16th of July 1961 at WangdiTse, in Thimphu along with Rigney Lobdra, established by His Holiness the late DilgoKhentse Rinpoche, and was shifted to Taktse under Trongsa District in the year 2011. It is structured with four stored building comprises of library office, circulation desk, library main collection, short-term loan corner, references room, work station, journal corner, traditional room, processing room, silent study room and store.

Khyentse library provides all users with a welcoming, comfortable, and safe environment. Library is facilitated with internet and Wi-Fi connections. Library also has webpage associated with KOHA (Integrated Library Management System), EBSCO, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), and Druk journal to access online journals. To access KOHA, login with http://library.ilcs.edu.bt/ and enter Student ID & Default numbers, to search the online catalogue and to renew holding books.

The Khyentse Library is kept open from 8:00 am till 7:00 pm on week days. On Saturday itis kept open from 9:00 AM to 1:00PM and remains closed on government holidays and on Sundays (time will change as per users).

Each user is issued a library card for circulation.Faculty can borrow seven books at a time and staff can borrow five books for a month which is renewable for another month.Student can borrow maximum of three different titled books for ten days and renewable for another ten days. The loan periods for Short-Term Loans (STL) are for five days and CDs/DVDs are loaned for a day. However, reference materials, reserve materials, and equipment are not available for proper checkouts or authorizations.

Regarding overdue fine charged Nu. 10.00 per day for faculty and staff for each book. Whereas Nu. 5.00 for students. However, damaged, lost, or non-returned penalties is that lost library items must be reported immediately. Either replace the same book or pay the purchased price plus a processing fee of Nu. 50.00 that includes transportation, barcode, 3M magnetic strip, and processing charge. Every users are expected to comply with the library rules and regulations:

  • Library patrons are expected to respect the desire of other patrons to use resources and facilities in a quiet, clean, and peaceful atmosphere at all times.
  • Users are also ruled to respect and care for all library materials, equipment, and property; must not maliciously access.
  • Edible items and personal belongings are prohibited in the library in an attempt to maintain the usable condition of library materials and environment.
  • Students are not allowed to bring in their bags and books except a notebook to write on.
  • Laptops and mobile phones are allowed in the library only for browsing not for call.
  • The main aim of our library is to let new users to identify the facilities and services provided by the Khyentse Library and also the problems that we faced. The library act as a heart and core source of information and knowledge for the faculties, staff, and students. For that reason we in turn expect from every users to use library facilities and services effectively and efficiently.

    Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) provides the facility for searching and browsing physical materials available in the library. Users can log in, check status of the issued books, make purchase suggestion etc. You can browse for items on the catalogue by title, author, subject, ISBN, Call number, year or keywords:
  • 1. Enter the search term, keyword or information that you have into the 'search' box.
  • 2. Click the search button. A listing of materials relative to the search method used will be generated.
  • 3. To browse for periodicals (i.e. print journals, magazines, newspapers etc.), click 'Advanced Search' and select the item under 'Item Type'.

    BE AWARE THAT THE LIBRARY IS EQUIPPED WITH LIBRARY SECURITY SYSTEM AS WELL AS CCTV surveillance.
